"Do not be afraid of sudden terror, nor of trouble from the wicked when it comes. For the Lord is your confidence. He will keep your foot from being caught"

Last night, as we were going to bed. Eric mentioned "Don't be afraid if you hear explosions or gun fire, I think tonight is the kick-off for minor league baseball and they often do their own fireworks." I took his advice. When I awoke to an explosion later that night, I didn't even stir: "It's just those fireworks Eric told me about," I thought. I did wake up, however, when the door bell range. I glanced at the clock: 4:30 am. It was dark outside. Why in the world would someone come visiting so early in the morning. Eric jumped out of bed while I grabbed the phone-ready to dial 911 if it was an intruder.

Eric flew to the door. To his relief, a police officer was standing there. "Did you hear any explosions?" he asked. Behind him the road was filled with fire trucks, an ambulance, and police cars. He interviewed both of us regarding time of explosion, location, associated sounds, etc. Can you believe I slept through the ambulance, fire truck, and police sirens (actually no sirens ever went off...)?

To make a long story short, a house across the street from us was bombed with a pipe bomb. A sheriff resides there, and apparently someone wanted to "get revenge." He was injured (hence the ambulance) and I guess an elderly lady in the house adjacent to ours was injured after she fell while trying to see what the explosion was all about.

It's now about 11:24 am. All morning the road has been quartered off. There have been police/detectives combing through our yard, the neighbors yard, the street, etc. All cars parked on the road have been grounded as the police think there may be other bombs planted underneath them. Thankfully, our car was NOT parked on the street but rather in a locked garage. I got to talk to at least one reporter and we've been interviewed by two policemen. It is quite the hub-bub.

The sad thing: this bombing will never make national news as this is nothing compared to the bombs going off in Israel, Iraq, etc.

I am just comforted by the text I started this long tome with: do not be afraid of sudden destruction, nor of trouble from the wicked WHEN it comes. Note God doesn't say IF it comes but WHEN it comes. I'm not afraid even though there are bombs exploding next door, gunfire down the street, and wars all over the world. The LORD is my confidence. He will keep my foot from being caught.

In full assurance,
Rachel

P.S. The house pictured is NOT the house bombed. I am not able to take pictures of that house right now. Trust me for now, it definitely looks bad...
