Dear friendly readers,
My (Eric's) life is about to change radically. After a week of orientation talks reminding me of how much I don't know, it is finally time to become a "real" doctor. I start my year of general surgery with Trauma surgery on the Blue team (hopefully not code blue...). This is probably as good a rotation as any to start with. There's no clinic (obviously) and there are lots of nurse practitioners on the team to help me learn all the trauma protocols UCDavis uses. I am absolutely terrified and so spent the evening listening to audioverse... Some great thoughts on the topic of discouragement vs courage, etc. I hope you've all had a chance to be likewise blessed.
WYC is going well. Too well. I closed mail-in registration 5 days early or so. And then I had to close all registration 2 days early. Even though I took the PlusLine link off our website, several more people figured out how to get there and registered before I could get PlusLine to shut it down. And then after registration closed, all the people all of a sudden wanted to come. So in negotiating with Weimar (thank you Weimar), I could let a few more come but not all of them. I felt badly for many of these people who really wanted to come. I probably had to turn about 20-30 away. It's not just housing or food, but the physical space at Weimar will be more than filled to capacity. Praise God so many people want to come. Pray that it is a blessing to many people. Final count is 260 or so. I was supposed to limit it to 225.... I hope the Weimar people are ready for this! I'm guessing that "illegal immigration" combined with the normal Weimar staff will make Sabbath a huge event.
Rachel is currently down in Yosemite with friend from LLU, Weimar, and Shasta. They'll be hiking Mt Whitney later next week. I was talking with her on the phone until they spotted a bear and then the phone call had to be terminated and I was replaced by a digital camera.
God bless you all!
Eric
