A tribute to Eric (He doesn't know I wrote this!!)
I've been doing a lot of introspection lately. Maybe secondary to the fact that I'm on a lighter rotation and Eric is gone all the time on Trauma Surgery... At any rate, I've been thinking back over the last four years of married life. That's right, we celebrated our fourth anniversary on July 6th. Hands down, no competition, Thanks to Eric, these past four years have been the happiest years of my life. Why? For the following reasons.
1. Eric's patience. I tend to be a "quick burn" and have a rather erratic way of jumping to conclusions before I've analyzed all possibilities. Eric is patient with my ups and downs. He has never complained when I changed my mind multiple times. He has never retorted harshly to a not-so-nice comment from his wife, nor has he ever raised his voice in anger. Basically, he's a saint.
2. Eric's steadiness. Eric's core personality and values haven't changed a bit. His emotions don't go up and down with every passing whim. I never have to wonder whether he'll wake up in a good or bad mood. He's just Eric, the same four years ago, the same today. It's incredible.
3. Eric's reliability: When Eric makes a promise, he keeps it. When he starts a project, he finishes it. When he makes a change, he sticks with it. I have to say, it's refreshing to see someone so dependable.
4. Eric's devotion: Eric is devoted to God first, his family (and friends) second, and his job third. He is very careful to keep strong boundaries between all three of these areas. I appreciate how every day he spends time in God's word and at every opportunity he can be found listening to a sermon on audioverse or preparing one of his own! I really appreciate how he is so careful to keep in touch with all of our family (including extended family). Each and every relative (AND FRIEND) is very important to him. It is also amazing to me how hard Eric works at his job. For example, he's not home right now because he is staying late to make sure all of his work is completed with unwavering fidelity. It's inspiring.
5. Eric's compassion: Eric really cares about people and has compassion for those less fortunate. He willingly sacrifices time and money if to better someone else. For example, last Friday night, he spent two hours holding the hand of a patient who was dying. No one told him to do this, he just felt so sorry for the lady as she had no family or friends at her bedside. He was with her when she died. It's really beautiful.
The list goes on. I've left out all sorts of other wonderful traits-sympathy, humour, determination, bravery, and on and on and on and on...
I will conclude with my final thought which is a personal wish to my husband, the most wonderful person in the entire world.
Happy Anniversary ERIC CHARLES NELSON!!!!! I LOVE YOU VERY MUCH!!!!
