ALBANIA IN 2009!
For those of you interested in going to Albania next year. I'm planning a trip for End of May or Early June. I've not decided the exact dates yet. It will be either during the last two weeks of May or the first two weeks of June. I'll know the exact dates by July. It all depends on whether I get the last two weeks of May as an away elective in addition to my first two weeks of June vacation time. I'll keep you updated.

Otherwise, Eric and I are keeping very busy. Eric is on trauma surgery and I'm on emergency medicine. Trauma surgery is not a bad schedule as the resident's work either days or nights not both. They also get a day off on each end when they switch. It works out to about 6 days off a month--which is really, really nice! My ER schedule hasn't been bad, either. I started out just working nights-which was horrendous, but now I'm working days which are much easier. I've seen all sorts of interesting traumas: amputated foot, depressed skull fracture, gunshot to abdomen and chest, and then all sorts of motorcycle wrecks. There was a motorcycle event this weekend and we saw quite a lot of the participants. Otherwise, no really funny stories yet. Well, actually yesterday I helped take care of one of the cutest 8 y/o boys I've ever seen. He came in s/p MVA and was actually just fine. Because his father was also in the wreck and mother was stranded without a car (it was wrecked), we got to babysit him until family could come and pick him up. It was Easter Sunday, so he got a "special meal tray." When it arrived, he eagerly opened the top and then stared at the food. Tears started coming to his eyes as he sobbed "it's Easter and they brought me all my hated foods!" The food really was quite disgusting and made me want to gag, too. Thankfully, one of the other residents went down to the caff and was able to get more "Easter like," age appropriate food.
