Recent escapades...
I am now helping with kindergarten Sabbath School at our church. I am working very closely with Joelle Worf and Jennifer Aruda. Over the last few weeks, we've had to make a few adjustments to our songs. For example, we were faithfully singing "I will make you fisher's of men" until one of the girls informed us that "Jesus told his disciples to fish in the lake and as the fish came out they just turned into men!" We attempted to explain that fish REPRESENTED men, but she was even more confused by the explanation. Those abstract thought capabilities have just not matured sufficiently and that song is now being saved for PRIMARY class! Another funny story. We asked the kids why we give our mission offering every Sabbath. There was an immediate waving in the breeze of hands, I picked the child that was not only waving her hand but jumping up and down vigorously. "The reason we give our mission offering," she explained, "is because Jesus loves us already and we want Him to start loving the boys and girls He doesn't love now!" I'm not sure how the money makes Jesus "start loving" but that triggered another long explanation about who Jesus loves, etc. BIG LEARNING POINT: Kindergarten kids are VERY CONCRETE and simply DO NOT get abstract concepts. So we've gone through all the songs and stories and "concretized" them. Hopefully it helps.
Eric and I went rock climbing for the very first time last Sunday in honor of his 30th birthday. It was definitely a trust building exercise for Eric. He really had trouble scaling the first wall with me balailing (sp) because he was sure that I would drop him! After I lowered him down successfully, he was a little more confident but he still would periodically yell down to make sure I hadn't dropped the rope. We maxed out at about 10.1 which I thought was pretty good for our first time.
On an exciting note, Eric and I GET TO GO TO ALL OF GYC!!!!!! YEAH!!
Otherwise, nothing new.
