Does Jesus Care
Baby Amy's been having a rough day. If she could, she never leave the source of her security and food. Unfortunately, staying perpetually attached to mommy is not an option (mommy has to have time to make more milk, believe it or not...). She finally fell asleep for about 1 hour allowing mommy and grandma a short reprieve. Upon awakening and realizing she was no longer attached to mommy, she began the loudest wailing, crying, and screaming I think her little soul has mustered yet. Unfortunately, mommy and grandma were in the car driving (took advantage of the nap to get a few things done...) and so there was no comforting or stopping. Soothing music, grandma's artificially low voice (trying to imitate Eric), and mommy's promises to feed as soon as we get home only added fuel to the fire. This poor child had been separated from her food source and was most unhappy.

Mommy coped by taking deep breaths and imagining she was in a happy, quiet place. Grandma coped by, well, grandma informs me she didn't cope very well. The cries continued to crescendo to a desperate, angry wail. On arriving home, mommy calmly removed Amy from the car seat, carried her into the house, and made her wait two whole minutes while she got a drink of water before feeding her starving child (mean mommy).

Finally, after filling her tummy and feeling again secure for close to an hour, Mommy had a whole 15 minutes before the cries started again - while Mommy is trying to grab a bite to eat. Can't be hungry - she just ate for an hour. Mean Mommy thinks she can't be hungry again so it is Grandma to the rescue - but Grandma is not what she wanted. Finally Amy and Grandma end up at the piano bench, where, with one-handed hymn playing Amy finally decides she's not going to get what she wants, so she might as well go to sleep. In the meantime, the hymnal falls open to hymn #181. This sends Mommy and Grandma into stitches as they can ony imagine AmyAnn's version:

Does Jesus care when my stomach hurts too deeply for mirth and song
As the wails progress and the cries distress and my wait grows weary and long
Oh, yes, He cares, I know He cares.
His heart is touched with my grief.
When my cry is angry 'cause my stomach's hungry
I know my Savior cares.

And AmyAnn wants all of you to know that Jesus cares about you, too.

Oh boy! :) AmyAnn's version made me smile. Already preaching sermons via the hymnal - love it! The picture is precious.
