Telling stories
So today Amy begged me to tell her a story with her little people (vintage fisher price little people). So the following dialogue ensued:
Amy: The little people are ready for bed, tell a story about going to bed.
Mommy (rearranging the beds a bit and picking up a green little girl): OK, it's time for you to go to bed Sally. Let's lay you down in this nice pink bed.
Amy (grabbing the green little person): No Mommy, that is ABIGAIL and she sleeps in THIS bed, THAT bed is where Grandma Sherry is going to sleep!
Mommy: OK, where do you want them all to sleep.
Amy (while placing the appropriate little people in their appropriate beds): Abigail sleeps in this bed, Grandma Sherry sleeps here, Emily sleeps next to Grandma Sherry, Little Daddy sleeps on the floor, Big Daddy sleeps on the bed next to Mommy, Nana and Poppa sleep on the floor, and Michael sleeps in the crib. NOW Mommy, keep telling the story.
Mommy: Well, the little people slept very soundly and ....
Amy: BRRRRIIIIIIIINNNNNNG. That's the sound that wakes them up.
Mommy: All right. I think every one is awake but I hope that doesn't include the really truly sleeping Michael in the next room....
Amy: I'm going to take them to the park after I get them all dressed and they've made their beds.
Mommy (Reaching over to move the living room chair that she thought was mistakenly in the park area): OK, let me help set up the park.
Amy: NO Mommy, that chair goes AT THE PARK. It's so that Big Daddy and Poppa can sit and get their backs rubbed.
Mommy: Oh....well let me put them into the car and help drive them to the park.
Amy: NO Mommy, they don't go in the car. They go in the tractor trailer, like this. Now, KEEP TELLING ME A STORY!
Mommy: Well, every time I start, you have your own way of doing the story. Why don't you just tell mommy the story.
Amy: But YOU are telling the story....
Mommy: OK, well they get in the tractor and drive to the park.
Amy: And when they get to the park Nana and Mommy rub Poppa's and Big Daddy's Back. And then Baby Michael goes down the slide and Grandma Sherry gets stuck behind a log, and .....
Mommy (leaving the room to get a screaming Michael): Great story, sounds like you've got it all figured out!
Amy: Mommy, COME BACK AND FINISH THE STORY YOU STARTED!!!
