And that's life

During lunch today, Michael pauses with fork half-way to his mouth.
Michael: "Mommy, why do I have to eat a lot of food?"
Me: "So you can grow big and strong."
Amy: "Yeah, you grow bigger and bigger until you are an adult (Amy threw her arms out wide) and then you get old and start to shrink (her hands came clapping back together) until you DIE.
Michael: Eyes really big. "Mommy, are you getting old?"
Amy: "No, Mommy is too small. She looks like she is only seven and NOT thirty-three."
Michael: "But is Grandma Sherry getting old?"
Amy: "No, Grandma Sherry isn't too old yet. But," she sighed. "Everyone gets old and shrinks and then dies."
Michael: "Oh, OK."
Both children resume eating lunch.
