Hide and Seek

The kids and I played hide and seek tonight. I offered to count first. After counting to twenty, I walked around the house poking my head behind doors and under beds. Surprisingly, it took me a couple of minutes to figure out the kids were hidden behind the guest room bed. They'd managed to stay perfectly quiet. Since I spied Michael first, he was supposed to count next. He was a little concerned about being it. "Momma make sure you hide where I no where you are so I can find you." He pleaded.
"But the goal of hide and seek is for mommy to hide where you CAN'T find me." I pointed out.
"No, mommy," he started crying. " Please hide where I know where you are."
"I promise to hide in an easy place," I assured him.
He continued to sob while counting all the way to twenty. I hid in the laundry room, assuming that would be an easy place. Amy went and hid where they had been hiding previously. Of course, Michael checked there first and squealed delightedly when he found Amy. While they were distracted, I sneaked out into the living room and was sitting there when they returned. Amy counted next and Michael and I both hid in the laundry room. Amy found us fairly quickly, thanks to Michael's verbal clues...It was my turn to count again. Both children were easily located--they had hidden in the laundry room, again. When Michael was it, Amy suggested we hide upstairs again so we went back to their usually hiding place. Michael checked the laundry room first and was broken hearted we weren't hiding there. Amy started "chirping" so he soon located us and the tears were quickly turned to laughter. We traded being it a few more times. Hiding places remained pretty much the same. I did try our bathroom to break things up when Amy was it. Michael was worried she wouldn't find us so gave her some verbal cues which helped her rapidly hone into our hiding place. All in all, everyone had fun even though the game was more like "peek-a-boo" than "hide-and-seek!"
