Shopping woes
I did my marathon grocery shopping trip today. On the way out the door, Amy suddenly burst into tears, "I don't want to go shopping. I want to stay HERE!" She ran over the the couch and buried her face into a pillow. I ignored her and continued getting shoes and coat on Michael. She stayed sobbing on the couch as I headed out of the house. I wasn't sure how long to play this out, but figured she'd probably have a change of heart as she saw me actually trying to leave. Sure enough, I'd barely closed the side door when I hear, "MOMMA DON'T LEAVE ME, I WANT TO COME SHOPPING WITH YOU!!!" I soon heard vigorous stomping and thumping as shoes and coat were found and flung on. Soon a rather perturbed little 5-year-old was clambering into her carseat.
"Well, I guess you changed your mind?" I queried.
She ignored my question. "Mommy," she stated emphatically. "You hurt my feelings."
"I did?" I asked, completely surprised.
"Yes," she continued. "You didn't come over to the couch and hug me and kiss me and tell me how much you want me to come with you."
Ah yes, we are going to nip this little histrionic manipulation in the bud...
Later that same day while we were at Costco, the cashier asked Amy if she liked shopping with her mommy and was answered with a very deliberate and decided "No!" Guess we have more character development to work on....
