Noel

While listening to "The First Noel" in the car. Amy asks, "Mommy, why do we sing 'no well, no well?' That doesn't make any sense." I explained that the word was N-O-E-L. So then she wanted to know what NOEL means (and Michael kept insisting, "the word DOES have an 'L' mommy!!")

So for you adults. Why do we have such a confusing song as part of our Christmas repertoire? I honestly don't even know what the word means and looking it up, apparently no one really knows what it means. So... I've concluded that all my life I have piously sung a Christmas song that has no definitive meaning. That is "no well," in my opinion.
