Days #11-12
I forgot to blog yesterday. So I am catching up today!
Day #11
Woke up to massive flooding in our yard. So, what do Nelsons do with water? We Kayak! We launched from our back yard and kayaked all the way to the North Chickamauga Creek. We ventured on a short run. The current was quite fast and there were lots of trees, so we didn't go very far. Michael, of course, was terrified the entire time...
Later in the morning, I ran some supplies of food to our (almost) neighbors. On the way, I was shocked at how many people were at the store. I have retracted my previous lackadaisical attitude. This COVID-19 thing is a big deal and older people have NO BUSINESS going out and about!
Stores have separate shopping hours for older people and yet there were LOTS of older people shopping during regular hours. I made the mistake of talking to an older gentleman. I asked him why he was out. He informed me he thought this whole thing was "crazy" and I was a "cuke" for thinking he needed to be careful. I informed him that he was actually the "cuke" for coming out and exposing himself. He said, "I have a master's degree in math and this is nothing."
I replied, "My credentials trump yours, I have an MD and I have talked to people in New York and this IS A BIG DEAL."
Obviously, the exchange didn't end amicably.
Contrast this with my friends who didn't even come out to pick up the food I left on the porch until I was in my car. Then they came out with gloves and lysol and sprayed down the bags before even opening them!
Day #12
What a beautiful sunny and warm day. Eric and I spent part of the morning watching videos on how to run vents. Then, in the afternoon (when Eric got back from rounding and seeing patients) We went to the Greenway to walk with fellow physician friends (and religiously kept our social distance!!). We are all so stressed about this virus. We talked almost the entire time about COVID-19.
Then we returned home and discovered Eric's dad has had a serious exposure. I'm not going to post the long story. Nor will I share the various viewpoints about whether this could have been prevented. I was very upset. Unfortunately, I have the tendancy to vent before I think and had to apologize to my family during our evening worship. I will probably need to apologize to my inlaws but I don't think I'm quite ready to, yet. However, after getting the kids in bed, Eric and I did even more review on vent management. I hope we are prepared.
