Dog in the Car

Today we had a busy day at church. I was there by 8 am to start setting up for a wedding shower, which we had from 10-12. I was then supposed to stay at the church all afternoon for a special kids program, but after Name Withheld had a major meltdown, I brought her home, picking Eric up from the airport on the way...

On arriving home, I left Name Withheld playing outside while I put away all the food from the shower. It suddenly got very quiet. I ran outside to check on her. She wasn't outside. I ran around until I found her in the garage. I was quickly informed to go inside because "I can play all by myself." Hmmm. Unusual words from a child who is too scared to even go to the bathroom by herself. My suspicions were immediately raised, but not seeing anything amiss, I locked both cars and went back inside.

Soon, I heard Name Withheld in the laundry room, rustling around, looking for the car keys. I intervened quickly and asked her why she needed the keys.

"'Cause Timmy is in the CAR!"

What? I asked incredulously.

"Yes, I was playing, and I put him in the car, and now you've locked the car door."

I went out to investigate, and sure enough, poor Timmy was crammed in between the front and back seats of the van. It actually took a minute or two to extricate the poor dog. Now I understand why Name Withheld wanted to stay outside by herself...Both cars are locked and the keys are out of reach.
